As part of Stoke-on-Trent's "regeneration" campaign ( sorry that should read "the creating more min wage jobs and ghetto style estates so that property developers can make even more profits campaign"), our beloved council has, and I dread to think how much money they spent on it, produced a musical theme tune for the city entitled "Moving Forwards Together".

The delightful and "inspiring" song will be used on radio comercials et al to raise some morale with the local people at a time when luxury apartments are being built on every scrap of land, of which no-one can afford to even live in them; low salaries are still the norm but don't worry I hear Tesco and Subway and creating more "worthwhile" jobs, I could go on.

I suppose all of this wouldn't be too bad if the song didn't stink so badly, I mean, wake up you council fat cats! Why didn't you approach one of our local bands? If they were after an inspirational "theme" tune, I'm sure one of the many many many talented bands and artists in the city would have created a mainstream, commercial hit that was actually interesting and at the same time promoted local music and engaged with young people, surely?

I got the Zine Directory from Jane today which is really cool and no doubt I'll be orderng a whole host of mags & zines featured soon :) I have done a ridiculous amount of shopping recently, doing some advanced xmas present shopping mainly. Went to Chester last week with my mum and found an awesome Japanese shop and stocked up on lots of goodies. I really really want to spend my 21st next year in Tokyo, that would be awesome! I got the shoe-box set of Sex & The City for £49 from Virgin Megastores which came through as £44 something with my student discount, yay. Picked up loads of cheap graphic design / typography books from the local Oxfam shop and donated lots of music-related stuff for their upcoming Oxjam event.
On Friday I went to gig in Telford and then headed to Birmingham the following morning. Went into Borders and picked up LOADS of cookbooks (huge sale - I love £1 books!) in preparation for Dan's new kitchen. I also picked up copies of Disorder, Alternative, The Fly and Juxtapoz which will keep me happy for a while :)

An open letter to Avril Lavigne [23 Mar 2007|01:09pm]
[ mood | bitchy ]
[ music | Trash Fashion - It's A Rave Dave ]

Dearest Avril,

I just watched your new video with utter disgust. What on earth have you done??! Why are you stealing the boyfriend of the geeky girl? Why have you turned into a bullying fake alternative chick? Alernative people don't bully anyone! Your new video for 'Girlfriend' makes you look like a sad slut and who the hell wrote the lyrics for it?:

"You're so fine
I want you mine
You're so delicious
I think about ya all the time
You're so addictive
Don't you know what I could do to make you feel alright?

Hey! Hey! You! You!
I don't like your girlfriend!
No way! No way!
I think you need a new one
Hey! Hey! You! You!
I could be your girlfriend"

You're supposed to be the anti-Britney, the cool token alternative girl who would never take the piss out of the geeky girl, the girl we, your devoted fans, can relate to and you're supposed to make us feel better for not being part of the popular clique. Your previous albums have been all about heart-ache, being alone, and not having boyfriends, and this was a great formula for making you a big success. We know that you fell into the wrong crowd after your second album and hung out with Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan but we can forgive you for that and treat it as a lapse in your strength to handle your superstardom. We can even forgive you for marrying that twat out of Sum41 and being on the cover of men's magazines with your bits out but we can't forgive you for this.

We only hope that your new marketing people have released this as the new single to make some quick cash and actually left you alone to write the rest of the album in solitude about miserable things.

Yours sincerely

Avril Fans (of first and second album and Over The Hedge)

Eddies No. 8 burns down (RIP???) [13 Nov 2006|02:20pm]
[ mood | sad ]
[ music | blue october ]

If anyone's not seen this yet, check it out : http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_midlands/6142482.stm

It is with great sadness to find out that Eddie's No. 8 in Birmingham suffered a huge fire over the weekend. The venue is severly damaged and there has already been rumours from the local council that the site which remains will be scheduled for demolition shortly.

It's awful news that we've all lost another venue in the UK, especially one that put on a lot of lesser known bands and was great at supporting its local scene.

It's very sad to see it go :(

Mini update!

It's been a busy last couple of days, many many many trips to the Post Office and yet still a fair few mags to send out. My promo batch has been put on temporary hold until next week (I know, I need to be more organised!) as I'm just packaging everything up to send in one go. Festivals this weekend also mean I'm going to be busy at The Secret Garden Party and V festival. Arghh so much to do so little time! And what's happening with this weather? Hello it's August last time I checked lol.
